Paper Abstract:      This article presents the way in which e-commerce has changed the economic environment of a developing country, Romania. At first, a brief history of Romanian e-commerce is presented with examples of functional sites. Then, we present some of the advantages and disadvantages of this new type of commerce for the Romanian business environment. Finally, the authors conclude that e-commerce is going to be successful only if and when Romanian society becomes a consumer society.
